Thaddeus Gamory

Thaddeus Gamory is on project at Norfolk State University – establishing the Adult Aquatics Program, as its inaugural Coach / Program Coordinator;  He is a Training Faculty member with The Center for Mind Body Medicine, and Special Advisor to projects with law enforcement. He is a former New York State Certified Police Instructor, NYPD Platoon Commander and Commanding Officer of Supervisory Training  at the New York City Police Academy, and a member of the National Association of Black Law Enforcement Executives.  Thaddeus routinely offers mindfulness practices to members in his role on the Health and Wellness Committee for the NOBLE New York Chapter.  He is also the Founder of Mind Body Aquatics LLC and Blue-Mindfulness Training method. 

Thaddeus developed the Blue-Mindfulness Training method, a trauma-informed, anxiety-sensitive, and culturally-competent approach that focuses on restoring ancient mindfulness healing and water traditions for Black,

Indigenous and People of Color communities. He was also a Swimming and Athletic Coach in Broward County Schools, Adult & Youth Learn to Swim Instructor, the Director of Community Engagement and Projects for Diversity in Aquatics, and a trainer with Equity Consulting Network.

Thaddeus earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Public and Government Administration from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. There, he also studied the science of swimming and received certification as a New York City Public Schools Mentor for At-Risk Youth. He also coordinated a mentoring program for boys. Thaddeus has held certifications under USA Swimming, US Masters Swimming, USA Triathlon, USA Track & Field, USA Cycling, Qigong, Aquatic Exercise Fitness Trainer, PADI Advanced Scuba Diver, and is a lifelong practitioner of meditation, holistic health, fitness, sports and recreation to promote ongoing wellness for personal and group development.

Thaddeus is Faculty/Special Law Enforcement Advisor with the Center for Mind Body Medicine. After retiring from the NYPD, he founded Mind Body Aquatics LLC and created the Blue-Mindfulness Training method, a trauma-informed, anxiety-sensitive, and culturally-competent approach that focuses on restoring ancient mindfulness healing water traditions for Black, Indigenous and People of Color communities. He is a former educator and current High School Swimming and Athletic Coach, he is Director of Community Engagement and Projects for Diversity in Aquatics, and a trainer with Equity Consulting Network. Thaddeus currently serves as co-chair of the DEI Subcommittee of the Water Safety, Water Competence & Swimming Lessons working group developing the United States National Water Safety Plan. Thaddeus earned his BA in Public and Government Administration from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where he studied the science of swimming under Dr. Jane Katz.
